Brauron. Back wall of the "Small Shrine" and the remains of earlier walls within the collapsed cave. These early walls are thought to date from the 7th and 6th centuries B.C. The excavator (Papadimitriou) suggested that these warly walls may have been part of the "tomb of Iphigeneia" built within the cave. When the ceiling of the cave collapsed (in the mid 5th centur B.C.?), the "Small Shrine" was constructed as a replacement. View from the north. June 1, 2000.
