Brauron. Foundations of the temple of Artemis., eastern end. The carefully built foundation wall in the foreground is the southern, exterior wall of the temple. In the middle of the photo you can make out the foundations for the pronaos and one of the inner rows of columns from the cella. At the eastern end of the temple (right) the archaeologists have placed two fragmentary, Doric column drums. There are several other Doric architectural blocks that have been assigned to this temple, suggesting a date of c. 500 B.C. (or perhaps a little later). View from the southwest. May 31, 2002.
