The Kerameikos. The Dromos (Panathenaic Way) and the Dipylon Gate. The name "Dipylon" means "Double Gate" (the two gates are actually at the eastern end, in the distance in this photo). In the center of the photo is a Roman statue base standing in front of an outer gateway added in the Hellenistic period. View from the northwest.
