         <item>The second example indicates the certain loss of exactly 10 characters.</item>
         <item>The third example indicates the certain loss of approximately 10 characters, using the new <att>precision</att> attribute with a value of "circa".</item>
         <item>The fourth example indicates the certain loss of 4.2cm of text.</item>
         <item>The fifth example indicates the certain loss of approximately 2 characters (where exactly 2 characters would give [ · · ] <foreign lang="la">vel sim.</foreign>).</item><item>The sixth example indicates the certain loss of between 22 and 28 characters. If the <att>extentmax</att> attribute is used (for the maximum value of the extent range), then the <att>extent</att> is taken to indicate the minimum value of this range.</item><item>The seventh example indicates the certain loss of between 1 and 3 characters (constituting a <foreign lang="la">praenomen</foreign>).</item>
         <item>If a unit of measurement other than "character" or "line" is used for the "unit" attribute on <tag>gap</tag>, then no <tag>certainty locus="extent" degree="low"</tag> element should be associated with the <tag>gap</tag>. <note>GB: Why not? are we not confusing certainty with precision again? And even then, could we not have c. 4.2 cm lost?</note></item>
