When a lost and supplemented sequence of characters includes the end of an inflected word, and it is impossible for the editor on the
basis of context or comparanda to determine the original declension or conjugation of the word, and therefore the final characters for the supplement,
the editor places a single trailing horizontal dash within the square brackets, thus:
