Headword: Rhagôsai
Adler number: rho,11
Translated headword: to sever
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
To cut.[1]
Also [sc. attested is the phrase], "thy light shall break forth as the morning".[2]
Greek Original:
Rhagôsai: temein. kai, rhagêsetai prôïmon to phôs sou.
Notes:
[1] Same equivalance in other lexica. As transmitted, this headword ῥαγῶσαι is aorist infinitive of an otherwise unattested verb ῥαγόω . LSJ s.v. declares this probably a false reading for (otherwise unattested) ῥακῶσαι , which does not seem much help (ῥακόω means "I become ragged or wrinkled").
[2] Isaiah 58.8 LXX. Here the verb is future passive of ῥήγνυμι , third person singular.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; religion
