The "Aleian" plain, located by Homer (Iliad 6.201) in Lycia but more exactly in Cilicia (Herodotus 6.95.1; Strabo 14.5.17 (676); Arrian, Anabasis 2.5.8; Steph. Byz. s.v. Halai), literally means "wandering" - though Stephanus of Byzantium derived the adjective, more prosaically, from the nearby city.
