This may be in error for one of the several mythological figures called Alkyone (daughter of Aiolos, daughter of
Atlas, daughter of Sthenelos, mother of Elephenor). Alternatively, it may derive directly from an unknown version of the origin of the kingfisher (see
alpha 1298,
alpha 1300) from her death (cf. Ovid,
Metamorphoses 11.410-748).
