Headword: Ἀντανάκλασιν
Adler number: alpha,2609
Translated headword: re-reflected, re-reverberated
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Derived from something by reflection/reverberation. This comes from sound, whenever there is an echo, or at the light of the sun, whenever it strikes something smooth or very bright water.
Greek Original:
Ἀντανάκλασιν: κατὰ ἀνάκλασιν ἀπό τινος μεταγομένη. γίνεται δὲ τοῦτο ἀπὸ φωνῆς, ὅταν ἀντηχῇ, καὶ ἐπὶ φωτὸς ἡλιακοῦ, ὅταν λείῳ τινὶ ἢ λαμπροτάτῳ ὕδατι προσπέσοι.
Note:
Same entry in Photius and elsewhere, i.e. with the accusative case of the noun antanaklasis as headword. In Hesychius, however, the headword is the feminine present participle ἀντανακλωμένη (quoted from the Septuagint: Wisdom of Solomon 17.18), a proper grammatical fit with the glossing phrase.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; religion; science and technology
