Headword: Ἀδαχεῖν
Adler number: alpha,430
Translated headword: to scrape
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
To grate, not with the "o"[1] [i.e.] ὀδαξῆσαι . Also [sc. attested is] αδαχεῖν , [meaning] to be grating. "For he is always grating the barley right here[2] and gathering the husks": Aristophanes [sc. says this].[3]
Notes:
Same entry in Photius and elsewhere. The headword, aorist active infinitive of ἀδαξάω (or ἀδαξέω : see LSJ, and cf. generally omicron 28, omicron 29), is evidently quoted from somewhere.
[1] This omicron is a textual addition by Johann Pierson (1731-59) in his 1756 edition of the lexicographer Moeris.
[2] Or "his barley".
[3] Aristophanes fr. 410 Kock.
