Headword: Ἀείρων
Adler number: alpha,639
Translated headword: unspoken
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Without flattery.
Greek Original:
Ἀείρων: ἀθώπευτος.
Notes:
Same entry, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
By contamination with alpha 638, presumably, the headword has been transmitted as the masculine present participle ἀείρων ("raising"), which has caused the gloss to be masculine also. Both should in fact be neuter. Hesychius and the Etymologicum Magnum (21.43) gloss ἄειρον (or ἄιρον ) with ἄρρητον as well as ἀθώπευτον : this would suggest derivation from the root *wer- as in ἐρῶ . See LSJ s.v. (web address 1). For a homonym, see alpha 637.
