Headword: Αἰακίδης
Adler number: alphaiota,5
Translated headword: Aiakides, Aeacides
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
The son of Aeacus.
Greek Original:
Αἰακίδης: ὁ τοῦ Αἰακοῦ υἱός.
Notes:
Homer uses this word twice in this case (nominative), both times in reference to Aeacus' son Peleus (e.g. Iliad 16.15: web address 1). In the oblique cases, and especially in the genitive Αἰακίδαο (e.g. Iliad 9.184: web address 2) it almost always refers to Peleus' son (and Aeacus' grandson) Achilles.
For the gloss cf. scholia to Iliad 16.15 (above); ps.-Herodian, Epimerismi 26.5.
