Χάλκεος: ἰσχυρός, στερεός. καὶ Χαλκέῳ κεράμῳ: Ὅμηρος: χαλκέῳ δ' ἐν κεράμῳ δέδετο τρισκαίδεκα μῆνας. ἤγουν δεσμῷ ἰσχυρῷ καὶ δυσλύτῳ. ἢ πόλις καλεῖται Χαλκὸς κέραμος. ὅτι Δίδυμος ὁ γραμματικὸς Χαλκέντερος ἐκλήθη διὰ τὴν περὶ τὰ βιβλία ἐπιμονήν: φασι γὰρ αὐτὸν συγγεγραφέναι ὑπὲρ τὰ τρισχίλια πεντακόσια βιβλία.
