Headword: Δυσάλωτον
Adler number: delta,1589
Translated headword: hard to capture
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
Hard to take hold of.
Greek Original:
Δυσάλωτον: δύσληπτον.
Note:
The headword is neuter nominative/accusative singular (or masculine accusative singular), and the entry = Synagoge delta386 and Photius delta793. In Bachmann's edition of the Synagoge (202.15) we find δυσάλωτον: δύσληπτον, δυσνόητον, κακονόητον ; “hard to take hold of, hard to understand, badly understandible”, but Cunningham omits the final two words (rendering the entry equivalent to the Suda's) without comment in his apparatus. Perhaps originally from scholia to Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 166, but cf. also the scholia to Sophocles, Oedipus at Colonus 1723 (masculine nominative singular); and see generally LSJ s.v.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; tragedy
