['To distribute'] and 'distributors'. To distribute [δατεῖσθαι ] [means] dividing, whereas 'distributors' [δατηταί ] [are] the dividers. The [phrase] "into a choice of dividers" is a kind of lawsuit. For whenever people were sharing [something] with each other and some wanted to apportion the common goods but others did not, those who did used to sue those who did not, [challenging them] "into a choice of dividers". So Lysias and Aristotle [sc. use the phrase].[1]
Dividers [is] the technical term for the men apportioning the common goods to those unwilling [sc. to accept the apportionment].
