Goods. Or the profit from business. The amassing of the profit. The verb is ἐμπολᾶν ["to engage in trade"]. Aristophanes [writes]: "but I have made no profit at all from trade, neither barley nor wheat, so that I am like to perish." As if he said, about to go on a trip or serve in the army, for those on military service used to buy wheat and barley for themselves.

Ἐμπολή: φορτίον. ἢ τὸ τῆς πραγματείας κέρδος. ἡ συναγωγὴ τοῦ κέρδους. τὸ δὲ ῥῆμα ἐμπολᾶν. Ἀριστοφάνης: ἀλλ' οὐδὲν ἠμπόληκά πω, οὔτ' ἄλφιτ' οὔτε πυρόν, ὡς ἀπολούμενος. ὡσεὶ ἔφη, ἀποδημῶν ἢ στρατευσόμενος: οἱ γὰρ στρατευόμενοι πυρὸν καὶ ἄλφιτα ἑαυτοῖς ὠνοῦντο.
