Meaning adorned. For they are accustomed to use [the verb] στέφειν ["to crown"] instead of κοσμεῖν ["to adorn"]. But στέμμα ["wreath"] is the wool which is attached to the branch. Sophocles [writes]: "adorned with suppliant branches."

Ἐξεστεμμένοι: ἀντὶ τοῦ κεκοσμημένοι. εἰώθασι γὰρ τῷ στέφειν χρῆσθαι ἀντὶ τοῦ κοσμεῖν. στέμμα δέ ἐστι τὸ προσειλημμένον ἔριον τῷ θαλλῷ. Σοφοκλῆς: ἱκτηρίοις κλάδοισιν ἐξεστεμμένοι.
