This entry distinguishes between two words that would have been homophonous in late Greek: the headword
ἐπαίχθη (3rd sing. aor. pass. indicative from
παίζω ('play')) and
ἐπέχθη (the corresponding form of
πέκω ('comb'). The entry may ultimately derive from
scholia to
Aristophanes,
Clouds 1356 (Web address 1), where the latter occurs.
[1] For the entry thus far, Adler cites
Lexicon Ambrosianum 1574 and 1679. For another form of the same verb, cf.
epsilon 2063. For the glossing verb, the compound
ἐνεπαίχθη , cf. under
kappa 2500, of
Croesus (and in Matthew 2.16, Herod and the Magi).
[2] For the remainder of the entry, Adler cites
Lex. Ambr. 1577 (and cf. 1576 and 1680). See also
epsilon 2112 for another gloss on the same word.
