Headword: Ἐδεύετο
Adler number: epsilon,212
Translated headword: was lacking, was soaking
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
Was in need. In another [sense]: was satisfied, was gladdened, got wet.
Greek Original:
Ἐδεύετο: ἐνδεὴς ἐγίνετο. ἐν ἑτέρῳ, ἐκορέννυτο, εὐφραίνετο, ἐβρέχετο.
Note:
The headword -- similarly glossed in other lexica -- is imperfect middle, third person singular. As from δεύομαι , a dialectal variant of δέομαι , it occurs seven times in Homer (always in the formulaic phrase 'did not lack an equal feasting-share'); cf. the scholia to Iliad 1.468. However, 'got wet' glosses the imperfect middle of a different verb, δεύω (drench, soak); cf. delta 282.
