[He/she/it] was saying that [he/it] was just.[1] "And [if?] someone does not restore the royal/imperial authority to himself, but he was judging that he himself was entitled to be freed from blame."[2]
Appian [writes]: "Syphax, inquiring about the events, undertook to void the agreements and judged that neither the Romans should enter Libya nor the Carthaginians enter Italy in war. But if anyone disobeyed, he said that they would fight as allies with those who obeyed."[3]
And elsewhere: "Marcius did not think it right to reply to even one of these [statements]."[4] So ἐδικαίου means was juding, was thinking him/it just.

Ἐδικαίου: δίκαιον εἶναι ἔλεγε. καὶ μὴ τὴν βασιλείαν ἑαυτῷ ἀποδίδωσί τις, ἀλλὰ τοῦ γε ἀπαλλάσσεσθαι κύριος ἐδικαίου εἶναι αὐτός. Ἀππιανός: Σύφαξ δὲ τῶν γινομένων πυνθανόμενος ἐπεχείρει διαιτᾶν διαλύσεις καὶ ἐδικαίου μήτε Ῥωμαίους Λιβύης μήτε Καρχηδονίους Ἰταλίας ἐπιβαίνειν ἐπὶ πολέμῳ. ἢν δέ τις ἀπειθῇ, τοῖς πειθομένοις ἔφη συμμαχήσειν. καὶ αὖθις: ὁ δὲ Μάρκιος ἀντιλέγειν μὲν πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν αὐτῶν ἐδικαίου. Ἐδικαίου τοίνυν ἀντὶ τοῦ ἔκρινε, δίκαιον εἶναι ἐνόμιζεν.
