Headword: Ἐπιτολμῆσαι
Adler number: epsilon,2709
Translated headword: to make a daring attack on
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
With the dative. To plot against.[1] "And he persuades them to make a daring attack on Lykides and Sosibios, and, such as he is, and they being merchants, flatters them and easily persuades them, even though it was the dead of night."[2]
Notes:
[1] The headword, presumably extracted from the quotation that follows, is aorist infinitive of the verb ἐπιτολμάω . For another instance of it with the dative see under alpha 4218.
[2] Aelian fr.262 Hercher, 260 Domingo-Forasté. Kuster suggested emending τοιοῦτος to τοιούτους , which would render the second part as "and he flatters them, being merchants of such a sort..." See also epsilon 2759.
