Translation: Menekles or Kallistratos in the [treatise] About Athenians writes thus: "for after the Painted [Stoa] and the Royal Stoa are the so-called Herms".[1] Some used to be called Hipparcheian Herms, after Hipparchos the son of Peisistratos.
Greek Original:Ἑρμαῖ: Μενεκλῆς ἢ Καλλιστράτης ἐν τῷ περὶ Ἀθηναίων γράφει ταυτί: ἀπὸ γὰρ τῆς Ποικίλης καὶ τῆς τοῦ βασιλέως στοᾶς εἰσιν οἱ Ἑρμαῖ καλούμενοι. ἐκαλοῦντο δέ τινες καὶ Ἱππάρχειοι Ἑρμαῖ ἀπὸ Ἱππάρχου τοῦ Πεισιστράτου.
