Headword: Ἔθυσας, ἀντιθύσῃ
Adler number: epsilon,336
Translated headword: you sacrificed, may you sacrifice in turn
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
The Cyclops says this to Odysseus in Philoxenus.[1] For they misinterpret the [Homeric line] 'and then we kindled a fire and sacrificed'; in the Poet [this] is said about sheep, and does not mean we sacrificed.
Notes:
This entry makes no sense as it stands: the final verb, creating the distinction intended between animal and other sacrifices, must be corrupt. Suggested emendations include ἐπεθύσαμεν ('we burned incense').
