[1] A nonsensical gloss which may perhaps be a remnant of an etymological gloss connecting the headword and ἥλιος ('sun'), perhaps hinging on the belief that 'studs' in the sense of dermal or opthalmic blemishes (epsilon 3897) were caused by exposure to the sun (see Etymologicum Magnum 403.19-23).
