Hesychius, Lexicon eta110 and in Glossarium Cyrilli (Vallicellianus E11 fol. 98r) have: ᾔδεσαν: ἠπίσταντο, ἐγίνοσκον , “they knew: they were acquainted, they perceived”. For this same verb see also eta 80 and eta 84.
