Headword: Ἠδολέσχησα
Adler number: eta,94
Translated headword: I talked idly, I talked, I meditated
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
I was talking to myself in conversation.[1]
Greek Original:
Ἠδολέσχησα: διελάλουν ἐμαυτῷ προσδιαλεγόμενος.
Notes:
The headword is the aorist indicative form (first person singular) of the verb ἀδολεσχέω , used in all periods. In the classical age it seems to have a negative shade of meaning (to talk idly), but less so subsequently.
[1] Quotation excerpted from Theodoret, Interpretatio in Psalmos 80.1477b Migne, commenting on Psalm 76.4 LXX: ἠδολέσχησα, καὶ ὠλιγοψύχησεν τὸ πνεῦμά μου , “I talked, and I was discouraged in my soul”. He continues: “conversing with myself and considering the evils constraining me I gave up [trying] to remove them, and accepted the sharp pains of my despondency”.
