Commonly known as Gilead, a territory east of Lake Tiberias (the Sea of Galilee), in present-day Jordan and Syria (Barrington Atlas map 39 grid C4). Mentioned in the Septuagint (e.g. Genesis 31.20), Josephus (Jewish Antiquities 13.382), and numerous other sources. Adler cites Lexicon Ambrosianum 90 as a parallel to this entry.
