The unglossed headword
γάνιος is presumably a Doric form of what would otherwise be
γάνεος , genitive of the neuter noun
γάνος , "gladness, joy, cheer." Its only other extant occurrence is in the
scholia to
Oppian,
Cynegetica 2.195, where it is glossed with
εὐφρόσυνος . (
Oppian himself, however, wrote a quite different word:
γάμιος !)
