A disease resulting from bile.[1]
"Those who were colored with jaundice as if with gold."[2]
They say that there is a yellow-colored condition aroused by anger so as to make the eyes of the victims yellow and black, like [the eyes] of kites, from which it gets its name.[3]
[Note] that those suffering from jaundice are easily changed to a bird when they look at a curlew. See under χαραδριός .[4]

Ἴκτερος: νόσος ἐκ χολῆς συνισταμένη. τοὺς ἰκτέρῳ χρωσθέντας ὥσπερ χρυσίῳ. λέγουσι δὲ εἶναι πόνον ὠχροειδῆ ἀπὸ θυμοῦ ἐγειρόμενον ὥστε τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῶν κεκρατημένων ὠχροὺς καὶ μέλανας ποιεῖν, ὡς καὶ τῶν ἰκτίνων, ἀφ' οὗ καὶ καλεῖται. ὅτι οἱ ἰκτεριῶντες ῥᾷον ἀπαλλάττονται πρὸς ὄρνιν τὸν χαραδριὸν ἀποβλέψαντες. καὶ ζήτει ἐν τῷ χαραδριός.
