Adler number: kappa,1249
Translated headword: things spun
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
Interpretation of a dream: if you are holding spun [threads], expect sorrows.
Greek Original:
Κεκλωσμένα: λύσις ὀνείρου: νενησμένα κρατῶν δὲ προσδόκα λύπας.
Note:
From the dream-interpretations, in verse, of Astrampsychos (alpha 4251); again at nu 315. An allusion to the old metaphor of spun thread as fate. Plato (Laws 960C) uses the aorist participle instead of this perfect participle with the same meaning, and Philostratus uses the same word (Heroicus 732.7: διεπόρθμευσεν αὐτὸν ἐς τὴν Φθίαν διὰ τὰ ἐπ' αὐτῷ κεκλωσμένα , "Thetis sent Achilles away to Phthia because of what was fated for him", i.e. to prevent him dying in Troy.)
