[There is] a proverb.[2] Aristophanes [writes]: "if the thunderbolt strikes the perjured, how then has it not burned Simon and Cleonymus and Theorus? And still they are perjured."[3] Of thunderbolts, some [are] descending, others -- the ones which destroy by touching [i.e. burning] smoky, others are called vivid."[4]

Κεραυνός: ἡ ἀστραπή. παροιμία. Ἀριστοφάνης: εἰ βάλλει τοὺς ἐπιόρκους ὁ κεραυνός, πῶς οὐχὶ Σίμωνα καὶ Κλεώνυμον καὶ Θέωρον ἐνέπρησε; καίτοι σφόδρ' εἰσὶν ἐπίορκοι. τῶν δὲ κεραυνῶν οἱ μὲν καταιβάται, οἱ δὲ ψολόεντες οἱ τῇ ψαύσει ὀλλύντες, οἱ δὲ ἀργῆτες καλοῦνται.
