Κακίονος
Adler number: kappa,155
Translated headword: of a worse one
Vetting Status: high
Translation: Of an inferior one.
Greek Original:Κακίονος: τοῦ χείρονος.
Note:
The headword (evidently quoted from somewhere) is the genitive masculine or neuter singular form of κακίων , the comparative of κακός . This particular form is preserved only here, once in Theognostos the Grammarian (Anecdota Graeca (Oxon.) 2.152.5), and once, according to Adler, as a lemma in Lexicon Ambrosianum. Other forms are found regularly in epic, lyric, and tragedy (this last with long ι ). The more frequent term in prose is the one found in the gloss, χείρων , which is often termed an "irregular" comparative form of κακός (so LSJ: web address 1 below), but is actually suppletive, deriving from the obsolescent *χέρης .
