Headword: Κακῶν
Adler number: kappa,176
Translated headword: of evils
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
God is not responsible for evils.[1] We properly call evils not what some ordinary people are wont to call evil, but vice and licentiousness and the other kinds of lawlessness which we venture of our own free will. For we are responsible for these, not God who prescribed the opposite by his law.
Notes:
George the Monk 85.13-17.
[1] So in idiomatic English; the Greek has 'not-responsible of'. This dictum is reminiscent of Plato, Republic 379B and, especially, 617E (θεὸς ἀναίτιος ).
