[1] The same derivation is given in LSJ; the adjective occurs in Homer, Iliad 23.34, referrring to flowing blood. The definition appears in Aristonicus, Homeric Lexicon, and is repeated in the scholia.
[2] Paraphrased from the Homeric scholia: "A κοτύλη is anything hollow, so they would also call the hollow of the hand a κοτύλη ." On the κοτύλη see kappa 2166.
