[2] It has been argued that there was no historian of this name from
Tabai, the writings credited to him here belonging to
Marsyas of
Philippi (
mu 228). See Laqueur col.1999, who associated the present
Marsyas with the priest of
Heracles mentioned by
Athenaeus 11.467C. Heckel (p.450} however, has urged caution and is inclined to accept the text of the Suda without alteration.
