μὰ τὸν Δία , as some suppose: but they used to use it instead of
μὰ Δία , just as [they used]
νὴ Δία in the sense of
ναί ["yes"]. Therefore they say both
ναὶ Δία and
ναὶ μὰ Δία .[1]
Aristophanes in
Wealth [writes]: "Yes by
Zeus and many more things than these."
Μὰ Δία [is used] in application to an affirmative oath, when
ναί is put before it.[2]
