Menander, Athenian, the son of Diopeithes and Hegestrate;[2] concerning whom much has been widely reported; comic poet of the new comedy, squinty in the eyes but sharp in mind, and absolutely crazy about women. He has written 108 comedies[3] and letters to
Ptolemy the king,[4] and numerous other stories in prose.
Μένανδρος, Ἀθηναῖος, κωμικὸς ἀρχαῖος. καὶ Μένανδρος ἕτερος, Ἀθηναῖος, ὁ Διοπείθους καὶ Ἡγεστράτης: περὶ οὗ πολὺς παρὰ πᾶσιν ὁ λόγος: κωμικὸς τῆς νέας κωμῳδίας, στραβὸς τὰς ὄψεις, ὀξὺς δὲ τὸν νοῦν καὶ περὶ γυναῖκας ἐκμανέστατος. γέγραφε κωμῳδίας ρη# καὶ ἐπιστολὰς πρὸς Πτολεμαῖον τὸν βασιλέα, καὶ λόγους ἑτέρους πλείστους καταλογάδην.
