Properly the skin of the goat. Also [sc. attested is] κῴδιον [2] and κῶος . But κῶας [is] the [skin] of the sheep.[3]
Josephus [writes]: "[he] having ordered those entering, to creep for the most part and to cover their backs with fleeces, so that if anyone saw them at night, they might present an appearance of dogs".[4]
The dative [is] νάκει .
The analogy [sc. runs as follows]: as βλάβη ["harm"], βλάβος ; δίψα ["thirst"], δίψος ; νάπη ["glen"], νάπος ; so νάκη ["fleece"], νάκος . But just as, they say, [feminine] ἀήτη ["gale"], and masculine ἀήτης , [genitive] ἀήτου ; and [feminine] ἀράχνη ["spider"], [but also the masculine form] ἀράχνης , [genitive] ἀράχνου ,[5] so too [one finds] [feminine] νάκη [and also masculine] νάκος , [genitive] νάκου . So [the word is attested] in three ways: [masculine] ὁ νάκος , [feminine] ἡ νάκη , [neuter] τὸ νάκος .
