As if νάφη , not having light [φῶς ] because of a thicket.
Xenophon has the word νάπος in the neuter, [meaning] a gulley. "[...] when the leaders came to a gulley hard-to-cross and large, they halted there, not knowing whether the gulley was to be crossed."[2]
