ᾨδηκός: φλεγμαῖνον, πεφυσιωμένον. ᾠδηκός τε γὰρ ἦθος ὑπὸ πλούτου καταστέλλει, τὸ εὔδαιμον ἑτέρωθι δείξας: καὶ τὸ καταπεπτωκὸς ὑπὸ πενίας ἐγείρει καὶ ἀταπείνωτον εἶναι παρασκευάζει τῷ καταμελιττοῦντι τὰς ἁπάντων ἀκοὰς διηγήματι: ὑφ' οὗ κἂν Ξέρξης ἐπείσθη, Ξέρξης ἐκεῖνος ὁ τὴν μεγάλην στρατιὰν ἐλάσας ἐπὶ τοὺς Ἕλληνας.
