For bat(s) cf. generally nu 578, nu 579. The present headword phrase as transmitted juxtaposes two nouns in the manner indicated. The equivalent one in ps-Zonaras 1458 does not have that oddity but is no more intelligible: ὀπή. ἡ νυκτερίς, καὶ ἡ τρύπα , "hole: the bat, and the bore-hole".
