And Homer: "For the shining sun did not stand over the earth." [2] The Poet shows that the universe is spheroid.

Φαέθων: λάμπων, ἥλιος. Σοφοκλῆς: ποῦ ποτε κεραυνοὶ Διός, ἢ ποῦ φαέθων ἠέλιος, εἰ ταῦτ' ἐφορῶντες κρύπτουσιν ἕκηλοι; οἷον οὐκ ἄγουσιν ἐς φῶς τὴν παρανομίαν. καὶ Ὅμηρος: οὔτε γὰρ ἠέλιος φαέθων ὑπερέσχεθε γαίης. δείκνυσι δὲ ὁ Ποιητὴς σφαιροειδῆ εἶναι τὸν κόσμον.
