[φέψαλος ] and φεψάλυξ : a spark, flying up out of the burning timbers.[1] Aristophanes [writes]: "but not even an ember is left of a seducer." As if [to say] a hot coal, a spark. But the Milesians are being reproached as seducers.[2]

Φέψαλος καὶ Φεψάλυξ: σπινθήρ, ὁ ἀναφερόμενος ἐκ τῶν καιομένων ξύλων. Ἀριστοφάνης: ἀλλ' οὐδὲ μοιχοῦ καταλέλειπται φεψάλυξ. οἷον ζωπύρημα, σπινθήρ. διαβάλλονται δὲ ὡς μοιχοὶ οἱ Μιλήσιοι.
