Aristophanes [writes]: "do not become hostile to our supplicating,"[2] that is, do not be angered out of revulsion and change your mind again,[3] over things you decided to do kindly for us.
And in the Epigrams "for Cypris[4] [is] otherwise hostile; but she still acquired one virtue in particular -- to hate women who are prudes."[5]

Παλίγκοτος: ὀργίλος, στυγνός, φοβερός, ἐναντίος. Ἀριστοφάνης: μὴ γένῃ παλίγκοτος ἀντιβολοῦσιν ἡμῖν, ἤγουν μὴ ἐξ ὑποστροφῆς ὀργισθῇς καὶ πάλιν μετανοήσῃς, ἐφ' οἷς ἡμᾶς εὐεργετεῖν διέγνως. καὶ ἐν Ἐπιγράμμασι: Κύπρις γὰρ τὰ μὲν ἄλλα παλίγκοτος: ἓν δέ τι καλὸν ἔλλαχεν, ἐχθαίρειν τὰς σοβαρευομένας.

The headword, illustrated by the two quotations given, is a two-ending adjective in the masculine and feminine nominative singular; see generally LSJ s.v. [In her critical apparatus, Adler notes that ms. F transmits the non-existent παλίκρατος .]
