Neuter plural (evidently quoted from somewhere) of an adjective compounded from the adverb palin, "back", and the verbal root phê-, "speak". Euripides uses the word in its Doric form, with the sense "recanting": παλίμφαμος ἀοιδά Ion 1096 (web address 1).
