Aristophanes [writes]: "if somehow they should fall on the shoulder in some fight, they would have wiped this off." [sc. He says this] because of their appearing not to have fallen. This kind of wrestling-move they call ψευδόπτωμα ["false fall"]. What he is saying is something like this: our ancestors, even if they were defeated, challenged the defeat; and for the victors, [if] defeated the second time, there was nothing more than the first penalty.
