Headword: Ῥά
Adler number: rho,1
Translated headword: so
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Instead of δή ["indeed"]. Plato [sc. uses the particle] this way.[1]
Greek Original:
Ῥά: ἀντὶ τοῦ δή. οὕτως Πλάτων.
Notes:
Same entry in Photius; and cf. Heyschius, who glosses ὡς ῥά with ὡς δή .
The enclitic particle ῥά "is found in Epic and also in lyric poets and the lyrics of tragedy" (Denniston 32, under ἄρα ).
[1] Adler notes, without comment, the suggestion of S.A. Naber that this gloss should refer to Plato the comic poet (pi 1707), not his namesake the philosopher (pi 1707, pi 1709).
