The normal classical word for a plant living in symbiosis with another or for a couple living together is
σύμβιος , and the related verb
συμβιόω . However, the verb in this entry is reasonably common, especially in Byzantine Greek (cf.
beta 298). The noun, the primary headword, is unattested in this form, although
συμβίοτοι (
Eupolis fr.448 Kock) is found once and
συμβιότη ('wife') twice on inscriptions (see LSJ for refs.).
