The normal classical word for a plant living in symbiosis with another or for a couple living together is σύμβιος , and the related verb συμβιόω . However, the verb in this entry is reasonably common, especially in Byzantine Greek (cf. beta 298). The noun, the primary headword, is unattested in this form, although συμβίοτοι (Eupolis fr.448 Kock) is found once and συμβιότη ('wife') twice on inscriptions (see LSJ for refs.).
