Headword: Σωσίβιος
Adler number: sigma,859
Translated headword: Sosibius, Sosibios
Vetting Status: low
Translation:
Of Laconia. Grammarian; one of the so-called 'Solvers'.[1] In these he relates this, too: that there is a kind of comedy called Dicelistae and Mimeloi.[2] [He wrote] On the Mimeloi Recorded in Laconia in Antiquity; etc.[3]
[There is] also another Sosibius,[4] a false guardian of Ptolemy; a shrewd and long-lived individual, and a cause of evil in the kingdom. First he contrived the death of Lysimachus, who was son of Arsinoe; then, after many further outrages, there was a resurgence of the hatred in which most people had previously held him.
Greek Original:

[4] (RE Sosibius(3).) What now follows begins by drawing on Polybius 15.25.1-2 but abruptly cuts to a later passage (15.25.23-4) where, it seems, the subject is Agathocles. On this, see already at alpha 2230.
