Same entry in Photius; similar (longer) ones in Apollonius' Homeric Lexicon and in Hesychius. The pronoun/adjective ὁ, ἡ, τό , here in the neuter plural nominative/accusative (evidently quoted from somewhere).
Originally a demonstrative, as in the epic dialect. It later became reduced to the function of a definite article, in the same manner as the Romance definite article developed from Latin ille, illa, illud.
